And it was getting ready to come out in a way that would probably not please his humans. Thank goodness the once-a-month playgroup got together today. To say Leo was happy about going would be an understatement. He was thrilled, excited, wound up, ecstatic, energized, and on cloud nine! The yard still had lots of fresh snow for him to plow through and some other dogs equally excited about the snow. And Leo enjoyed this session the most of any! There aren't a lot of pictures because it was still rather chilly for me and I wasn't taking my gloves off.

He did get a chance to meet another Great Pyrenees, which was pretty cool. It was very interesting to see the difference in the two dogs. Leo is much more outgoing and social, which is totally not in his breed trait. Must be all the places he has been going since he was a tiny puppy. Enough of my talking, let's get on with some pictures.

Leo racing toward the organizer of the group simply because she called him. Look at that smile - think he was happy boy?

Somehow my special boy managed to find dirt/twigs/leaves/crud even in all that snow

And then once he got home, he was still all wound up and ready to go. So, Rocky reminded him who was boss with a little wrestling match (and Leo is still smiling).

A doggie Christmas

Better late than never is the fun of Christmas for the boys. Of course they had to get new toys and treats and special yummy food. That is what the Mr and I get, so they are not to be left out.

Leo got a new stuffy ball

"How do I make it squeak?"

"Why won't you squeak?"

Leo really wants the ball!

Leo even tries to catch the ball in this video.

Then Rocky shows Leo how to properly squeak the ball to <strike>annoy</strike>, I mean, entertain the Mr and I. Poor Leo doesn't quite get is, but sure does try.

Then after all the fun with toys, Rocky stars to chase a reflection on the wall - crazy lab! Notice how Leo is not amused with his crazy brother.

"Oh wait, the spot moved!"

So, after all the fun with new toys, we are trumped by a reflection on the wall. It figures.

But after all the holiday fun, it was time for a yummy dinner (at least to the dogs). Not that you wanted to see dog food, but I thought it was funny that Leo, who is rather indifferent to food, had his nose practically on the counter while I was putting this together. Needless to say, he inhaled his food for a change and was a happy guy.

And please try not to laugh too much at the Star Wars movie on the TV in the background of the pictures. If you know the Mr, you know we have to watch it anytime it is on TV.

Mid-December Snow Storm

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to be better about keeping the blog updated. So, the next few posts will be posts of things that I have been meaning to post.

So, we had a big snow storm in mid-December. And today when it was 50 degrees and all the snow from it and all other storms after it has melted it occurred to me that I never posted the pictures of it. We ended up getting about 8 inches from this storm and then it got frigidly cold after so it stuck around and snowed a few more time (like it tends to to here in the great white north).

Leo is supervising the snow fall

"Please can I go back outside, Mom? Please?"

Rocky looking snowy and wet

Leo looking snowy and wet

So, we (meaning the Mr) worked hard to shovel the deck and clear the driveway. And this was the view 4 hours later.

Whose blanket is it?

Shortly after the boys woke from their Saturday nap, that question was posed and answered very quickly.

Rocky is still sleepy

Now he is trying to get comfortable and find just the right spot

And he found it!

I love that during the yawn, the finding a good spot and then settling in he managed to keep the blanket in place.

And now a Saturday afternoon

I am beginning to see a theme here. So, I did and fun was had by all the dogs.

Brooke playing with the jolly ball we brought

Brooke wearing her Leo slime proudly

Rocky, Leo and Brooke wrestling

Leo and Brooke wrestling

And my favorite one, Leo chasing Brooke - I love his crazy face

Thanks to Brooke and her mom for letting us play at her house.
I am just going to bribe you with cute pictures of the dogs in their Halloween costumes.

The dogs were supposed to wear the opposite costumes, but Leo did not want to wear the hat. So, instead he looked like a sausage stuffed in the shirt. Silly dog!
Seems that picture made an appearance in the Woods-and-Water news last year. I thought that picture had been forgotten, until another competitor brought me this.
Today we were rewarded with my first venture onto a major road. That will probably never happen again. But I thought I should share my new toy. That's right - I got a new toy and it isn't for the dogs or the Mr (of course, he thinks we should 'share').

Here is me picking up my new toy

Now it is home

Getting ready to ride (and the Mr getting artsy with the pic)

My sweet new ride

Tonight we had a bit of nature come up close and on the deck and believe it or not the dogs didn't notice it. So, our little friend stuck around for a while.

Praying Mantis on the deck railing

Later I found him hanging out with my tomatoes

We finally screwed Leo up so much that he is confused enough to dock jump. He actually had his first competition jump back at the end of June. But he only did the 2 jumps he got in the splash (along with a couple warm-up jumps) and then he was done. He gave us the stink-eye for trying to make him be a retrieving water dog and was done. But we did get photographic proof of the event, partly because we were proud doggie parents and partly because we were not sure when it might ever happen again.

Leo's first competition (thank you Kayla for documenting this!)

*note - do you see the guy right behind Leo standing on the ground cheering with his arms up? Thanks Tim for being as excited about this jump as we were

Just this last weekend we got a chance to try Leo again and boy oh boy did he impress us. Saturday he did 2 splashes (4 jumps) plus a couple practice jumps and Sunday he had a practice jump and 1 splash before he gave up on us. We figure he jumped off the dock about 10 times over the weekend. Pretty impressive for a non-water, non-retrieving breed of dog. He even got a new personal best jump of 10'2" on Saturday. We got his last jump of the weekend on video (thank goodness). If you listen, you can hear the commentary from the announcer who is not sure whether to tease Leo for his lack of enthusiasm or be impressed that he was still jumping. Make sure to watch to the end to see how funny Leo looks all soaking wet getting out of the pool.

We are just used to having him around and he has grown from such a small puppy, that we got used to it. Lately, even we have noticed that Leo is a large dog, actually more like an extra-large dog. So, in honor of our 'big' boy, I thought I would include some pictures that show Leo's size in comparison to Jason.

Leo wants to know why he can't sit in Jason's lap.

Leo says, "What do you mean I don't fit?"

"Of course I fit, I am a lap dog!"

But Leo's hair (on his head) seems to be getting longer or we are just picking on him more. The Mr wants to use some gel and hair dye to make it stand out more. Here is Leo rocking a mohawk.
All I can say is that I had a lot more time to keep up a blog last summer when I wasn't working. Apparently our summer schedule does not allow me much 'free' time to keep up with things. I guess during the summer I can work and forget to blog or not work and blog. So, this is my attempt to win you back.

This is a picture from the Toledo Blade from our event in Maumee on Sunday.

I have lots more updates and I will try my best to get them up soon.
Our friend Anna and her dog Brie came along for the trip. We took this same trip last year and had Anna and her two dogs with us, so we figured it was no big deal. However, we neglected to remember that Leo has grown a bit since this time last year. So, while everyone fit, there wasn't as much extra space as we thought there would be.

On the way there and everyone is trying to get comfortable. Rocky is pretty sure this isn't going to work.

Maybe this will be more comfortable

The event went well. Rocky jumped in the 16 - 17-foot range. He started to jump shorter towards the end of the day. We aren't sure if he was tired or if his foot was bothering him. He had injured his foot 2 days before we went. But we all had fun and got tired dogs for the ride home.

On the way home the dogs were very sleepy, so they settled into spots quicker. But there was still some interesting arrangements.

Leo and Brie cuddling

Then Leo spread out and Brie decides she isn't comfy anymore

So, Brie tries something else

Needless to say, that didn't last long and they had to reposition themselves again.
